academic experiences
During the final semester of my MSN Educator track at the University of Central Florida, College of Nursing I completed a 300 hour internship. My internship was at Rasmussen College of Nursing in Ocala, and the Dean of the college was my primary preceptor. I was blessed to have the opportunity to work with multiple additional faculty who assisted me in designing, and implementing teaching-learning activities in the clinical setting and post conference, in the online environment, and in the classroom. Each educator has various strengths and uses unique strategies to influence student learning. This perspective was very valuable as a new educator. Having the Dean of the College of Nursing as my primary preceptor offered a global perspective as well, as she included me in discussions and national meetings regarding the college planning, goals and vision.
Clinical & post conferenceI was given the opportunity to implement active learning strategies through supervision and instruction in the clinical setting. The students that I worked with were in their final quarter of nursing school, in clinicals in a medical telemetry and Medical renal unit. Post conference discussions that I led focused on transition, incivility, and professionalism. These topics were relevant to this group and I was blessed to be able to share some pearls of wisdom.
I also provided students with the opportunity to attend daily safety huddles, bed briefing, nursing leadership, and patient safety meetings with hospital leadership. |
Online teaching & gradingDuring my internship, I partnered with a nurse educator who facilitated a hybrid online & face-to-face course titled Role & Scope. I learned how to navigate the college online course system, Angel. On this platform I was able to access the student resources and their assignments and submitted work. It was through this method that I provided the most formative feedback to students through their weekly discussion posts and written assignments.

Classroom teaching & testingIn collaboration with the faculty member, I contributed to the lesson planning and introduced the use of SurveyMonky and effective classroom learning activities. Prior to examinations, I had the opportunity to evaluate test writing and offer suggestions for writing effective questions. Test analysis was also completed after examinations through a computer program that produces data. I reviewed the analysis with the faculty and participated in discussion with students and modifications to the test based upon the analysis and review of the course material.
